Hattyshack Hat Company was created out of my love of hats. I created the company to do what I like to do, which is make hats. They can be worn for special occasions, although most people just put them on the wall. I make hats with dried flowers and wreaths to help people decorate any room for the house. I must tell you truthfully that I usually cater to women, because they often enjoy the femininity of hats and wreaths.
Our Mission
To make people feel beautiful by helping them to decorate their houses, apartments, mansions, or shacks with flower hats.
Company Profile
The company was formed out of my love of the victorian ideals of love, beauty, and modesty. I was attracted to arts and crafts, decorating, and hat and wreath-making because I like to sometimes get back to nature. In my job, I wear a suit and take on an ambiguous professional role. When I come home, I like to shed my tough guy image and be a girl, which is what I am.
The company is not based on my making a huge profit. Instead, I like to personally cater to a woman's whims and make her something that she'll look at a lot. A beautiful hat or wreath on the wall says, "Hey! I love my home!" It is something beautiful that you can look at a lot.
Most of the people who get my hats are thrilled. They are shocked that a woman with such tomboy-like qualities would enjoy arts and crafts. I may be good at sports, but I also love to delve into the arts and create objects that people will enjoy.
I am the sole founder of the company. My name is Jean Blacklaw and I live in Silicon Valley. My hobbies include sports, writing, reading, and of course arts and crafts. I spend long hours at craft stores looking for the perfect bouquet of dried flowers. My favorite part of making the hats is giving them a new home, one where they will be enjoyed by their owner. I guess that you could say I am a hat connoisseur.
